How does ryanair works?

i'm planning traveling to europe and i found this cheap-flights airline. but i don't really get it. i have to buy my ticket with months of anticipation? is it safe to pay with credit card in that page? if anyone have fly with them please tell me the experience, and if you know another airline like that let me know.
